Staatskapelle

The Berliner Staatskapelle is in New York and they’re offering an interesting set of songs during the next week or so. They will be under the direction of Daniel Barenboim and playing all the symphonies of Gustav Mahler. This will be cool to hear, because usually you don’t hear that much Mahler at once. Some people think that it fosters depression to hear that much, but not if you’re really listening to the music and hearing all the beauty contained in it, despite it’s sometimes mournful or angry facade. This is the kind of concert series that you don’t tend to hear, but apparently, based on the first few performances, they have played them very well with great interpretive skills and everything. Check it our if you want.
