Pete Seeger turned 90 this week. Before this weekend, he was last seen in public during the pre-inauguration festivities for Barack Obama, and he looks relatively young and healthy. This weekend, he, along with Bruce Springsteen, Dave Matthews and other performers had a celebratory concert for his birthday. This was a night that celebrated Seegers career as well as the hopes and dreams that his music conveyed. He was a major performer for workers rights as well as Civil Rights during the 50s and 60s. He also made the banjo much more popular after the war than it was before. It’s altogether fitting that he should be honored by these performers, who were highly influenced by him over the course of these years.
