Coachella

At the Coachella Music and Arts Festival this weekend, there were some amazing performers as headliners on the main stage. Two of the main ones were Paul McCartney and Leonard Cohen. They played good sets, according to the reviews. But one of the reviewers brought up an interesting question: did the sets go over the heads of the audience? It’s not so hard for younger people to know and recognize their music. But it wasn’t one of those shows that seemed necessarily designed for the audience that was there. They don’t all know who Cohen is, and his music is so thoughtful and subtle that people don’t necessarily enjoy it, especially at an outdoor show. McCartney also seemed to be designed for those who have followed his career all the way, making the target audience older than most people there. Good music, to be sure, and those kids there got to hear some of the best in the world!
