Killers

The Killers are one of the big up-and-coming groups of the last couple of years. Their current tour has taken them all the way to England where they played at London’s O2 Arena. The reviews were, however, rather mixed. They tell of a concert that had some very good songs from their newer repertoire, but also seem to have accepted the idea of playing some of their older bad songs, that have a honking experimental feel that isn’t so beautiful and a bit disorganized. But they recovered with some of their better songs that are a little more orthodox, but also a bit more interesting with better lyrics and so on. It seems to be a concert that one can have fun listening to whether or not you’re a long-time fan.

What the Guyana?

T-Pain was supposed to perform this weekend in Guyana. For those who don’t know, Guyana is a country in South America, in the northern part of the continent. Anyhow, the rapper/hip-hopper T-Pain was unable to perform there because of security threats to his person. In the rap world, the quantity of threats has gone down over the last decade or so, and it’s a much more normal kind of concert environment. He was, however, threatened with “credible death and kidnapping threats”. There were several threats to him preceding his scheduled performances Monday in connection with the Carnival celebrations this week. It’s not clear who made the threats or why, and an investigation is underway.

Doctor’s Orders

Were you looking forward to seeing a gig with actress Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson in South Florida this weekend? Was that a major part of your Valentine’s Day plan? Well, don’t blame the people at the venue, because it’s not their fault that Lohan and Ronson didn’t show up. Instead, they’d decided to go somewhere in NYC to do some partying on Friday the 13th. The night before the show. But I guess they partied too hard, because Ronson was really sick and the doctor told her she shouldn’t fly. And she couldn’t drive down to south Florida that quickly, so you missed out on their performance. But the show has been rescheduled for March 7. Unless there’s a really good party on the 6th.

Playing Cold

Coldplay, on the heels of their 3-Grammy win last weekend, are getting ready go back on tour this spring. They have concert dates set for places all over the country. People keep telling me that their new album is amazing. They say it’s one of the most fun and most interesting albums that they’ve heard in recent years and I can easily imagine why. You know that big song, Viva la Vida? Since it’s the “Best Song” and other things, you can easily imagine that it’s impressive! Plus, they’re just a fun group to hear, with lots of entertaining and well-made songs!

Slumdog and M.I.A.

M.I.A. was at the Grammys last night, and she performed and was nominated for a Record of the Year award. The interesting thing about this is that she is quite pregnant indeed. She didn’t look bad and she carried herself quite well, all things considered. She said that she doesn’t know what labor is so she’s not really too concerned about labor all the time. But instead she said that during the show, the baby was “gettin’ his swagga on” especially during her own performance of a song from Slumdog Millionaire. What a fun show; there was so much going on at the Grammys, but MIA didn’t make the cut for the morning news reports most places, it seems.

The Boss

How about that Bruce Springsteen halftime show? How did you like it? I thought it was pretty cool. It seemed like he had to warm up into it at the beginning and then moved on to sing a really nice show. I don’t even know which songs he sang, but he really rocked it out, with some fun little banter in the middle. It’s like he really knew who was watching. Most of the people in the stadium can’t really see him, but everyone at home is watching. That’s why he did that rather unfortunate slide into the camera. If you missed it, he slid abdomen first into the camera and then looked like he was going to really laugh hard when he hit it. And he apologized to the cameraman too.
