Killers and Fun

Posted on January 30th, 2009 by Naomi in Uncategorized

The Killers new tour is nice. But it’s nothing really exciting. It’s kind of the same as it always was, but less interesting. Why? Because it’s all be done before–by them! Their music is still really good. They sang some of their best songs, and the concerts are split into sections for each of the personalities in the show. All that aside, they are still talented and still very good musicians. Nowadays we can’t see them in concert as much as we could before but why can’t we enjoy them just as much as before? They just needed to add a little bit more to their previous shows.

Pal Joey

Pal Joey was on Broadway recently and had very mixed reviews. We would have thought that the show would have gotten better reviews, because it was full of great performers, some of whom are real stars in their own rights. This Rogers and Hart show tends to be a very nice and fun show to see. But unfortunately, according to some reviewers, it’s just not as good as they hoped it would be. Some of the performers come up short and some of them just aren’t that great anyway, especially a young man who was recently in the chorus and now he’s in the title role. Oh well. Some of the reviewers don’t seem to like the material, which the performers can’t do that much about anyway. Take a look at this collection of reviews to get a more detailed idea.

Lampanelli

Posted on January 23rd, 2009 by Naomi in Uncategorized

Lisa Lampanelli is a stand-up comedian in America who really likes her raunchy jokes. Her humor is really well known for the sexual topics, raunchy and violent themes that come up. She really breaks the mold of what most comedians say. No joking stories about work or the airport here. No school-jokes here. Here it is all for adults and all absolutely hilarious. And no wonder. Her main comedic influence in Don Rickles. She has been in various TV shows and movies. But you can see her now by getting your Lisa Lampanelli tickets here!

Washington Mall Concert

Posted on January 19th, 2009 by Naomi in Uncategorized

This weekend there was a big concert on the Washington Mall. In January? It’s cold. But thousands of people showed up, because it was an exciting afternoon in honor of Barack Obama’s inauguration tomorrow. People were quite excited to see Biden and Obama. But there were also a whole pile of celebrities. Tom Hanks, Steve Carell, Garth Brooks, Pete Seeger, and many many more. It apparently was a great program, with lots of inspiring songs and speeches and we’re happy it went off without a hitch. Obviously, the security was high, just as it will be tomorrow, but it’s still an exciting moment to see such a big program.

Golden Globes

Posted on January 12th, 2009 by Naomi in Uncategorized

I know the Golden Globes aren’t a concert as such, but I think it still lands in the purview of our little blog here. There were some very memorable moments at the ceremony this year. Ricky Gervais was very funny during the ceremony, though not as funny as a few years ago when he did a little bit with Steve Carell. Tina Fey was also quite funny, as usual, saying that if she ever starts feeling a bit too confident about herself, she just looks at the internet. The big story is that Kate Winslet and Revolutionary Road took a large share of the awards this year. Winslet won both supporting actress and leading actress last night. Best supporting actor went to the late Heath Ledger for his role in The Dark Night. Nicely done to all the winners!

Once again Rivers Cuomo will be playing in the Mia Hamm/Nomar Garciaparra Celebrity Soccer Challenge. Last year, if you recall, Cuomo scored the first goal of the game. Get more news on this and everything else Weezer and visit their site.

Florence Henderson

Florence Henderson is doing a show that showcases her talents especially as a singer. It is sad for her that just a little while on tv as the mom on the Brady Bunch can wipe out all knowledge of the rest of her career. She was one of the bigger stars on Broadway for more than a dozen years and it’s a big sad to see it change that way. The show has her singing a lot of the old Broadway standards, some of which she helped make famous. She sings for the large bulk of her show, which makes sense because it’s a revue of her career and most of the time was taken with singing on Broadway. But of course, at the end of the show, she takes audience questions and everyone asks about the Brady Bunch. Ah well, at least she gets to sing and people come to hear her.
