The metal band, Metallica, has started their tour, called the “World Magnetic Tour”. The tour is designed to support and promote their new album, Death Magnetic. It is rumored to be a great CD and a pretty nice tour, although it only just began. The tour started on Oct 21st and continues into next year. The album sold nearly 500,000 copies right away in the US and debuted at #1 on Billboard and stayed there for three weeks. The tour takes them to locations in the US and Canada and possibly other parts of the world, though that hasn’t yet been decided. It should be a great time and they should be congratulated for their continued music-making success!

A website called The Concert Goer posts reviews of various concerts that people have seen. It all seems to be user-generated content, and it’s always interesting to see what people have to say about your favorite groups. For example, Nine Inch Nails performed in Kentucky awhile back, and one user gave a very happy opinion of it. He or she claimed that the opening act, something called “White Williams” was very bad, but then the Nails came on and the writer had a thoroughly good time. What I enjoy reading about this, and other concerts, is how engaged the audiences are with their band. Only the really interested ones write on such a page to begin with, but they know what they like and they like their Nine Inch Nails. It is quite fun to page around. Take a look for yourself.

Headlined by the Beastie Boys, the Get Out and Vote 2008 musical event is sure to delight musical fans this year. Backed by Jack Black and Kyle Gass of Tenacious D, as well as Ben Harper and others, the Beastie Boys plan to tear the house down (only after properly notifying the importance of everyone’s vote, that is). The Beastie Boys hope to let all the concert goers just how important it will be for the voters to go out and contribute, as this year’s election is critical. While he may not be currently on tour with anything new, Richard D James (aka Aphex Twin) is one of the most innovative forces in the music industry today. He has been a staple and true pioneer in the electronica ambient music world, creating songs of an eerie and almost frightening nature. His ability to manipulate bass, drums, and awkward pauses have cemented him a spot in the DJ world. Try picking up any one of his albums off his website and have a li’l listen.

…No seriously. They are. The band that brought you hits like “Last Resort” (and so many others!) is back on the road and ready to rock. Starting from the eastern coast of America, Papa Roach will steadily cross the country westward until all have been sufficiently rocked. It’s a common aphorism that “there ain’t no party like a Papa Roach party (cuz’ a Papa Roach party don’t stop)” so check out the Papa Roach home page and find out more information about their tour.
This year the folks at Riot Fest have done something different. They are holding the three-day festival in three different venues. Rumor has it they couldnt afford to rent out the giant Congress Theatre for all three days so they are renting it out for one, and then renting the Double Door and the House of Blues for one as well. The House of Blues is taking the mainstream acts (of course, because thats what brings them money) such as The Lawrence Arms. The Double Door is playing host to the smaller acts and the Congress is hosting the best of the line-up. Find out more information here.

If you’re a fan of Queens of the Stone Age, then you’ll love Eagles of Death Metal- lead singer/guiatrist Josh Homme’s other band. The Eagles of Death Metal derive their name from their sound- if The Eagles played metal. The band basically sounds like a more “danceable” version of the Queens of the Stone Age-which is great. Going to a show would be an all round good time- perfect for drinking and swaggering along with good friends.
